Pediatric Rehabilitation Program
The Shriners Hospital for Children — Northern California Pediatric Rehabilitation Program
Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Program offers highly-specialized care for children following a serious illness or injury. Our program's mission is to help children recover their highest functional abilities for daily life at home, school and play.
For more than 20 years, our hospital has provided comprehensive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services for pediatric patients with burns and spinal cord injury. In response to the growing needs of the region, Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California has expanded the scope of diagnoses we treat. Our team of specialists care for children with complex conditions including traumatic brain injury, peripheral nerve disorders like Guillain-Barré and other musculoskeletal and neurologic disorders. Likewise, our team of experts has grown, including support from additional speech language pathologists and neuropsychologist.
At the Northern California Shriners Hospital, we understand that a child's recovery experience matters. We embrace a multidisciplinary approach in a setting designed for children. Within our 80-bed hospital, the inpatient rehabilitation unit has 20 designated beds. Our multidisciplinary team is led by physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians. They oversee the course of treatment from their time in the hospital, to their transition to home and to outpatient services. Our spaces are designed to ease children's anxiety about being in the hospital and to promote their return to normal activities as soon as possible.
