Pediatric Anesthesiologists

The team of subspecialty, board-certified Pediatric Anesthesiologists at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California provides exceptional care for children before, during, and after spine surgery. Their training and experience, combined with a compassionate, child-centered approach, makes our pediatric anesthesiologists ideal to care for children undergoing complex spine surgery. Keeping children comfortable and safe are top priorities.

A well-coordinated, multidisciplinary team approach ensures the highest quality of service. Because of the complex nature of pediatric spine deformity, surgical treatment requires highly skilled and dedicated anesthesiologists.

Physicians use a multimodal pain management approach to achieve optimal pain control. Our approach limits exposure to opioids and leads to optimized recovery and rehabilitation. Applying the latest evidence-based methods, physicians prevent surgical site infections, reduce the risk of neurologic injury, minimize surgical blood loss, and prevent postoperative complications. This has culminated in an ERAS (Enhanced Recovery after Surgery) protocol based on three main principles: optimizing the patient’s condition before surgery, safeguarding the patient during surgery, and ensuring the patient has the best post-operative pain control and rehabilitation.

Pediatric Intensivists

The Pediatric Intensivists at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California oversee the care of each patient admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which may occur following surgery. Medically complex and compromised patients receive exceptional care. Patients traveling to the Northern California Shriners Hospital from areas where pediatric ICUs are not available benefit from the resources and expertise the hospital offers.
